At 0028 hours on December 18, 2007, the Lebanon Fire Department was dispatched to 10 Elm Street West in West Lebanon on a General Alarm for reported smoke in the building. Members of B-Shift responded with Engines 1 + 2. A Lebanon Call Firefighter arrived on scene and confirmed a working building fire. Engine 2 arrived on scene and reported numerous people attempting to exit the building and special requested a 2nd ladder on top of the 1st alarm assignment. Upon arrival of Engine 1 a second alarm was requested. Heavy fire condition found in the common attic space of a 2 story 40x80 multiple family dwelling. 3rd alarm requested. Temperature at the time of the fire was -13 degrees. Aggressive interior attack made, under control at 0141. 5 people transported by Lebanon Fire Dept. Ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for smoke inhalation. Cause still under investigation.
Mutual aid to scene provided by Hanover NH, Hartford VT, Hartland VT, Norwich VT, Canaan NH, Plainfield NH, and Meriden NH. Upper Valley Ambulance, Lyme NH, and Grantham NH provided cover trucks.
Note, media reported possible cause of fire was an exterior electrical Christmas ornament.
