02.06.08 - 2200 - Windham NH - 2nd Alarm - 8 Leni rd reported house fire. First Co. reports heavy smoke showing requests 2 alarm. This was a 2.5 story, wood, split entry 24' x 46'. On my arrival Co.'s had one line charged, made entry to the garage/basement were it appeared the fire had originated an was making initial fire attack. Other companies were stretching a second 1 3/4" line and taking out the entry door to the main flr of the house. Fire was extending up and pushing heavy black smoke from the windows. The Windham Fire Dept. members made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the bulk of the fire as the second alarm companies were arriving and being put to work. There was extensive damage to the dwelling through out and will be un inhabitable for a period of time. Derry, Salem and Pelham assisted at the scene. The Windham fire Dept. is to be commended for saving this structure, as it was on the outer edge of town making it a long run for the companies in poor driving conditions as sleet was starting to fall on the roadways. Plaistow New Hampshire -- building fire in 88 Main st. on the first floor. Arriving companies had fire showing from the "AB" corner of the 24' x 36' 2.5 story wood frame structure. Command requested additional apparatus to the scene. A second alarm was finally struck while companies made an aggressive interior attack which saved this structure. The house was extensively renovated this past spring. It appears the fire originated from the area of a direct vent heating appliance. If you look closely at the pictures you can see the vent located at the top center of the burned area in picture P1020542. The house will remain uninhabitable until structural repairs are completed. -- Car 80
