NHIS hosts the largest crowds for any sporting event in all of New England. Certain races attract in about 85,000 fans. To handle all the incoming and then outgoing traffic on a limited infrastructure is a logistic marvel. Several roads, including State Hwy 106 and Interstate 93 become on-way for certain parts of the day (You will see three lanes of traffic southbound leaving the race on a two lane road (normally one lane each direction). Interstate 93 takes the northbound lanes and turns those into southbound lanes.
