12/16 - To all my friends and brother firefighters........Please take a couple of minutes out of your day today to remember our 6 fallen heroes in Worcester. I have been out there each day this week and believe me when I say to you that our support to the families of these 6 brave men means more to them than I could ever put in words. This outpouring of support to them and to us as firefighters sustains both them and us as we prepare to give our brother Jeremiah Lucey his final farewell this morning in Worcester. I am proud to say I am a firefighter and glad to have friends and brothers that care, so as I prepare to go out to Worcester today I ask all of you to please say a prayer for them, they were true heroes..............................

  • 04/26/99 - HR514, the Wireless Privacy Enhancement Act of 1999, is a resurrected version of HR2369, the Wireless Privacy Enhancement Act of 1998.

HR514 was introduced in the House in Feb. and was passed on the same day that it was introduced. Unknown if the Senate has acted on it yet. Maybe there still some time to write a few letters (which will no doubt fall on deaf ears).

Check it out on the House's web site http://www.house.gov, and also check it out on Grove's web site at http://www.grove-ent.com on the MT home page. Bob's write-up describes how trunktracker scanners may become history and he talks about possible ramifications regarding being able to monitor APCO-25 stuff in the future. Also, more frequency ranges are added to the "censored" list, modifying a receiver to receive a "prohibited" transmission is forbidden, scanners must be manufactured to be "hardened" against modification, and scanners (not cell phones) must have a warning label stating that receiving a "prohibited" transmission is strictly FORBIDDEN. Also, the wording of Section 705 in the Communications Act of 1934 gets changed from "...intercept AND divulge" to "intentionally intercept OR divulge", potentially making just the act of listening to ANY non-broadcast transmission FORBIDDEN.
