Vermont -- Passing of Ray Davison
Dec 24, 2004 - VermontFireCommand -- As church bells began to peal their call to Christmas Eve services, it was being announced (over Addison County's frequency, and via phone trees) that a stellar member of the Vermont State Fire Service has passed, following complications during open heart surgery.
Our dear friend, colleague and brother - Ray Davison - has died.
If you were a member of the Vermont Fire Service, you knew Ray, and admired his salt-of-the-earth ability to ALWAYS find some thing good to say. He was surely one of the few who were cut from a pattern long since lost and a cloth who's weave can not be recreated.
For all who have been lucky to have known him - that he will be terribly missed.

Hi all,
Here we go again... Sept 17 at 6:45 PM.. We apologize for the late date.. Throw on a

Fire Depts Participate in CCNH Disaster Drill
Colebrook (NH) Sentinel - - By Lucie D. Fillion
On Tuesday evening, the Coös County Nursing Hospital in Stewartstown held a planned disaster drill with the Beecher Falls, Colebrook and Pittsburg fire departments responding.
The scenario portrayed was that a tractor accident at the visitor entrance spilled ammonium nitrate (used at the county farm), causing a vapor cloud. The departments had to react to the spill, which caused İfatalitiesİ and contaminated people, help those trapped inside, and decontaminate the victims.
Beecher Falls fire chief Steve Young was in charge of incident control. CCNH administrator Sue Collins communicated with the employees on the second and third floors, trying to keep careful track of the facility's 80 patients. The first floor could not be reached and victims were trapped inside. Two employees were sent to the recycling center, used as a staging area in case of a real emergency.

Littleton NH Fire Chief Lopes Stepping Down
.
BY PAUL HAYES, Staff Writer -- Caledonian Record
Friday August 27, 2004
LITTLETON NEW HAMPSHIRE
After more than two years of service, Paul Lopes will step down as chief of the Littleton Fire Department by the end of the year.
Chief Lopes notified Town Manager Jason Hoch of his intentions Aug. 20. He will conclude his duties as chief during the week of Nov. 29 to Dec. 3.
"I'm really disappointed," Hoch said after announcing the resignation at Wednesday's selectmen's meeting.
Lopes will remain on the force until a new fire chief is hired and will train the incoming chief. This will allow the department to undergo a seamless transition, Lopes said.
Time constraints contributed to Lopes decision to resign. He and his wife own Wanderer Inc. of Mattapoisett, Mass., which operates a weekly newspaper serving three towns, as well as offering computer technical support and Web design services. The business is a four-hour drive from Littleton.
Lopes said he will continue to live in Littleton after relinquishing his duties as fire chief, and may even continue to serve the department as an on-call firefighter.
Prior to joining the department, Lopes was an instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, and before that served as deputy chief of the Mattapoisett Fire Department.
Littleton's fire department made several steps forward under Lopes' guidance. A vehicle replacement schedule was established, identifying when each vehicle should be replaced. A ladder truck was the first vehicle replaced through this program.
The department also improved its fire code inspection capabilities. Despite being understaffed, the department handled fire code inspections for several large commercial developments at the Meadow Street-Interstate 93 interchange.
"There were a lot of great small moments," Lopes said. "Fortunately, nothing big occurred."

Chesterfield's annual August Corn Roast, a fire department fund-raiser for 70 years, will be no more starting this year.
Fire Chief Louis Perham attributes the demise to a couple of factors, one being increased prices of everything from the food itself to the band, and the second being a lack of manpower.

for heroic rescue
July 16, 2004
