Dec 31, 2004 -- From KMA
Keene Mutual Aid is now dispatching for the
Lyndeborough Fire Department (near Greenfield New
Hampshire). Their dispatch number is 82.
Also, the Hinsdale Fire Department has now completed
their move from low band to high band radio
operation. With the exception of a few Winchester
pagers, this pretty much completes the migration of
all Mutual Aid dispatched departments to high band.
This consolidation of radio operation to the same
frequency band reduces the number of duplicated
dispatch announcements needed by the dispatchers.
Having all departments operating in the same
frequency band also greatly increases the
communication efficiency between mutual aid
departments.
Dec 27, 2004 - - Amherst Fire will be switching from
151.220 PL 136.5 to 151.220 PL 103.5 today, weather

Capital Area Links update - 460.5875 is down indefinitely.
460.6375 link is still active
From SWNH Dispatch - KMA
From: "Leonard Goodnow"

Subject: Channel B upgrades
I thought I would bring the group up-to-date on some communications
upgrades we have made in our eastern areas of the mutual aid
system; what we call channel B. We had two major sites, located at
Temple Mountain and at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center
on the south side of Crotched Mountain that were switched back and
forth as needed from one control link. This meant that only one
site could be active at a time. If Crotched was active, Temple was
dead and vice versa. We also had some spotty coverage areas around
both sites, especially in the Crotched Mountain area.
During the last few months we made several significant changes that
have greatly improved communication performance in those areas. We
first made some changes to our antenna system on Temple Mountain to
provide a more uniform coverage area around the mountain. This fall
we moved the radio equipment that we had at the Crotched Mountain
Rehabilitation Center to the top of Crotched Mountain that
overlooks the new ski area. This made major improvements to all
areas around the mountain, but especially to the east and
north.
And finally, a couple of days ago, we added another receiver and a
unit called a "voter" at our channel B control site in Gilsum. This
unit simultaneously monitors the received signal from both Crotched
and Temple. It then selects the best received signal from the two
sites and passes it down to the console in dispatch. This alone is
a major improvement as now both sites remain active at all
times!
These improvements have greatly helped us to communicate better to
the eastern portion of our system. We also continue to make
improvements in other areas of our system. I will advise the group
as these improvements progress.
We now have nine members in our new Mutual Aid user group. I hope
everyone will be patient for the group to grow and develop. The
more members we have, the more beneficial the group will be. Please
tell the other members of your organization and have them join
too!
